Luminare Group’s Summer Playlist

By: Jill Casey

Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity, a book I love, opens with the line, “Did we listen to pop music because we were miserable, or were we miserable because we listened to pop music?” I believe the line comes in reference to a Smith’s song. Does it matter which one? Each is a bippy boppy anthem of ennui with which you can sing joyfully, sob - or do both.

By the end of the book the lead character is not redeemed but is finding his way past “It’s not what they’re like, it’s what they like.” I think of this book whenever I see an ask for a list of favorites. Both because it is fun to make lists - as they do in the book.  And because it is so much more fun to make lists when we let go of any notion of ‘guilty pleasure’ and just own what we like and make room for others to do the same.

Because Luminare Group is a virtual practice, we don’t get to hear what someone’s listening to from the cube, office, desk across the way, so we tasked ourselves to come up with a summer jams playlist.  If we had an office this is what you’d hear as you made your way to our conference room. (Maybe we’ll play it at the start of web meetings from now to Labor Day!)

All that said...Here’s Luminare Group’s 2018 Summer Jams playlist!
